Women’s day is a very special day for all women across the world. The fact that the 8th of March has been declared International Women’s day is in itself the recognition of women and their identity in the entire world.

The International Women’s day was celebrated with a lot of gusto at R.I.M.T-I.E.T, Mandi Gobindgarh. Dr. Harsh Sadawarti graced this occasion as the Chief Guest. Other esteemed senior faculty members were also present at the event.

It began with a musical tribute to women and womanhood. This was followed by a few poetic recitals of self composed work. Continuing the event on the musical note talented Punjabi student singers moved everyone present with their melody.

Dr. Harsh Sadawarti was also invited to play a quiz. Then a short meaningful skit presented by the students which was educating and entertaining. Inspiring speeches were also delivered by the students which voiced their opinions about the plight of women.

The ceremony was ended by a heart touching song dedicated to all the mothers worldwide.

WORKSHOP ON RECENT TRENDS IN ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION

e-VISION, the technical Club of ECE Department of RIMT-IET in collaboration with EEAST, Chandigarh based company, organized one day workshop on RECENT TRENDS IN ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION for 6^th semester Electronics and Communication Engineering students of RIMT-IET and RIMT-MAEC . Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal, RIMT –IET inaugurated the workshop and appreciated Mr. Rajneesh Talwar efforts to technically make the students aware of the latest know-how. Mr. Rajneesh Talwar HOD ECE, told the correspondent that the department organized this workshop to make the students aware of the latest technologies and the fields in which they can make their carriers. Moreover students are able to correlate the theoretical knowledge with the practical one. Shri Hukam Chand Bansal, Chairman and Mr Vijayant Bansal, Vice Chairman of the RIMT Group of Institutes, appreciated efforts of Mr. Rajneesh Talwar in organizing such events for the benefit of students. Mr. Talwar informed that students of ECE have shown keen interest in all the activities of the club and several other activities such as Industrial Visits, paper presentations by students and other such events are planned for the current and upcoming semesters. Mr Gurmeet, Director EEAST explained the basics and possible job opportunities in the field of core electronics, telecommunication, VLSI, Robotics, Plc’s and took up the practical session for Microcontrollers and Plc’s for the students. The companies had collaborated with Electronics department to present the workshop. Mr. Talwar thanked the company persons from EEAST for enhancing the knowledge of students related to core electronics, telecommunication, VLSI, Robotics and for taking up the practical session on Microcontrollers and Plc’s.

WORKSHOP ON CYBER SECURITY & CYBER FORENSICS

A three day Workshop on ‘Cyber Security and Cyber Forensics’ was organized by Computer Science & Engg. Department, inaugurated by Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal, RIMT-IET, Mandi Gobindgarh. The workshop was conducted by INSPARC Group of Cyber Security & Investigation Academy.

Mr. Ashutosh Verma, Forensics Examiner and Cyber Security Analysis spoke on current issues in Cyber Security & Ethical hacking including anti-virus implementation, mobile hacking, e-mail tracing, stenography & cryptography along with their practical implementation. Apart from this, he deliberated upon recent trends in Artificial Intelligence & Robotics.

Mr. Sushil Kumar Garg, Head, Computer Science & Engg. department motivated the students to believe in their basic instinct and explore this field further to implement these innovative ideas in practice.

Around 80 students attended the workshop. Students were very enthusiastic, they felt, such a platform provides more opportunities in their career.

Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd. visited RIMT

Another milestone has been achieved by Training and Placement department of RIMT engineering institutes as recently automobile giant VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (VECV), a 50-50 joint venture of Eicher Motors Limited, Gurgaon and AB Volvo, Sweden visited RIMT engineering institutes for recruiting final year students of B.Tech Mechanical stream.

With offered package of Rs. 4 lacs per annum by VECV to RIMT students, the post-recession phase in Indian job market is reflecting signs of recovery as number of companies are visiting engineering institutes at Punjab for their immediate or future requirements, said Mr. Vijayant Bansal, Vice Chairman of RIMT group, Mandi Gobindgarh. He added that this is the second time Eicher motors from Gurgaon is visiting RIMT engineering institutes. While extended warm welcome to company officials he also said VECV includes the complete range of Eicher’s commercial vehicles, components and engineering design businesses as well as the sales & distribution of Volvo Trucks.

Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal, RIMT-IET said that RIMT stands committed to provide valuable, hirable and skillful resource to its partner recruiters and our efforts in producing polished students is visible as MNC’s are visiting repeatedly for their fresh B.Tech engineer’s requirements.

Recruiting HR team members started the recruitment drive with company presentation followed by online test, group discussion and personal interview.

Jagpal Singh Bahra, a final year student of B.Tech mechanical stream said that we are really thankful to college authorities for inviting MNC’s in campus and providing us maximum placements opportunities. Prof. H.S.Taluja, Director Training and Placement said that a faculty development meeting was also arranged and an enlightening session was taken by HR team member of VECV to work towards bridging the gap between industry and institute.

Workshop on Climate Changes held at RIMT

A workshop on “Awareness for Reduction of CO2 Emissions” was organised by Department of Civil Engineering at RIMT-Institute of Engineering & Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh.

Sh. J.S. Chawla, Sr. Dy. Director, National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology (NISST), Mandi Gobindgarh was the Chief Guest & Key speaker. Prof. (Dr.) V.S.Batra, Head, Civil Engineering Department welcomed the Chief Guest and the audience. Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal, RIMT-Institute of Engineering & Technology while deliberating on the subject talked about the ill effects of global warming. Dr. Batra while introducing the topic said, “Population explosion has increased the demand of fuel wood leading to a fuel wood crisis followed by deforestation, soil erosion and silting of dams. He further added that the use of fossil fuels increases the CO2 content in the atmosphere. CO2 is the main green house gas warming up the atmosphere. Such green house gases pose serious environmental threats leading to rise in the global temperature which will result in melting of ice masses in the Arctic and Antarctica regions resulting in raising of the sea level leading to submergence of many low laying coastal areas.” Mr. Chawla in his key note address deliberated on various measures needed to reduce the CO2 emissions. He added that the effect of CO2 emissions in causing the climatic changes over the globe is now visible and discussed world over. He stressed the need of awareness among the coming generations of young engineers and entrepreneurs to understand the hazardous effects of global warming. He informed the audience that the United Nations Development Project (UNDP) in collaboration with Ministry of Steel (Govt. of India) has initiated the process of adopting the energy efficient technologies in steel rolling sector alleviate its impact.

Sh. J.S. Chawla presented training manuals of UNDP-GEF Project (Steel) Resident Mission (North) to Sh. Vijayant Bansal, Vice Chairman RIMT Institutes. Ms. Gurpreet Kaur student of 3rd year civil engineering also spoke on the climate calamities. Prof. Sandeep Singla, Event Coordinator & Assistant Professor Civil Engineering Department concluded the event by giving vote of thanks and motivated the students to work whole heartedly towards achieving the goals and make the earth better place to live.

RIMT NSS volunteers launch Pulse Polio Awareness campaign

Working for a social cause, about hundred NSS student volunteers of RIMT –Institute of Engg. & Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh, participated in a Pulse Polio Immunization campaign, creating awareness for the eradication of the disease.

Prof. Dalwinder Singh Dhaliwal, faculty member and NSS programme coordinator of the institute revealed that student in teams went to different colonies of Mandi Gobindgarh, visiting house to house and made the parents aware about the benefits of getting their ward immune from polio. The students urged the parents to visit the pulse polio booths on 7th February to get polio drops to the babies.

Mr. Vijayant Bansal, Vice Chairman, RIMT Institutes, lauded the efforts of the students. He said that the institute is committed to inculcate the values of social responsibility in the students and for this they are always encouraged to participate in such programmes.

Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal, RIMT-Institute of Engg. & Technology revealed that the campaign was launched by the NSS unit of the institute, under the initiative drawn by the Department of NSS & Cultural Affairs, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. He said that launching of such awareness drives shows the concern of the university to instill character and responsibility in the new generation.

Meanwhile the students covered Partap Nagar, Preet Nagar, Adarash Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Shastri Nagar and other adjoining area in the vicinity and got an overwhelming response from the public.

RIMT-IET faculty presents paper in US conference

Prof. Navninderjit Singh, Department of Business Administration, RIMT-Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh presented a paper on ‘Human Rights Aspect of Sustainable Development’ at an International Conference on ‘Sustainability in Business: Vision, Practice & Education’ held at the Argosy University in Minnesota, USA recently.

The research scholar dwelled upon that Sustainable Development encompasses not just two, as is widely held, rather three generations. First, that has conserved the resources for the “development” of the present generation. Second, that made “progress” with the resources left for them by the earlier generations. Third, for whom the resources are required to be sustained or conserved, i.e., the future generation.

He laid that the Sustainable Development is not only an economic or environmental issue but also has the social and cultural aspects. According to him the reason for this misconception has been that the western societies are almost mono-cultural and they have been unable to understand the significance of culture as an essential component of development. His research revealed that the communities that are culturally rich can more effectively deal with the crisis of resources. He gave numerous examples including that of town planning and vaastu knowledge of India. Such has been the significance of culture in the development that even International Law accords ‘the right to culture’ as a ‘human right’.

RIMT placed more than 200 students in IT companies

With the opening of next session at RIMT engineering institutes. Training and Placement department of RIMT group organized a mega pool campus drive of Noida based VibrantWorx TechServe Pvt. Ltd. for B.Tech and MCA students passing out in the year 2010. More than 450 students from nearly fifteen institutes from Ludhiana, Phagwara, Jalandhar, Patiala and Chandigarh participated in the drive.

While welcoming Mr. Puneet Srivastava Executive Director and team members; Vice Chairman of RIMT group of institutions, Sh. Vijayant Bansal, said that VibrantWorx TechServe is a specialist software outsourcing and offshore development firm with offices in Noida, Bangalore & US. He added that so far more than 200 students have been placed in IT companies through campus placements and with the start of second phase of placements in this new session, institute will be achieving hundred percent placements as more number of multinational companies are lined up for recruitment from campus.

While giving company presentation, Director of the VibrantWorx TechServe, Srivastava said that the company provides its expertise in mobile application development, software application development, location based services, wireless application development, custom web application, web 2.0 application development, iPhone application development, windows mobile & J2ME mobile applicaton to enterprises spread across the globe.

He also briefed that company is hiring for the post of technical analyst and will be offering a package of 3 lacs per annum to selected applicants. Placement drive started with the technical test which comprised of objective and subjective questions, around 70 students cleared and appeared for the first round of interview, among which 38 students made to second and final round of interview.

Second IT Job fest held at RIMT Engineering Institutes

With the grand success of IT job fest in the month of November, RIMT Engineering Institutes hosted second IT job fest exclusively for RIMT students in which more than six IT and core electronics companies participated and offered jobs to B.Tech Computer Science, Electronics and MCA students passing out in the year 2010.

Vice Chairman of the RIMT Group, Mr. Vijayant Bansal inaugurated the job fest and extended warm welcome to recruiting HR and technical team members of Wsoftech, Zimin software, Recroiter group, Blue Beacon Electronics, Canadian MNC datwind and other participating companies. He said that such job fest helps organizations to search for talented fresh resource for their current and future requirements. He added that RIMT students are introduced to newer technologies through regular workshops and seminars in the campus which leads to value added skills for getting employed.

All participating companies started with the placement test, followed by HR and technical rounds of interview. Mr. Amit Metharu, GM said that company will be hiring for the post of software trainee, web developer, web designer, business analyst, online marketing, search engine optimizer etc. Mr. Rajinder Singh manager HR of Blue Beacon Electronics Security Systems Pvt Ltd., Mr. Jai Thakural Director Business Development India, Mr. Vishal and Ms. Aman from Zimin software also shared their experiences in IT sector with the students and encouraged them to be innovative and focused during their six months industrial training period.

A Canadian MNC into manufacturing ‘mobile internet device’ called the UbiSurfer also conducted placement tests for B.Tech electronics students for the post of testing engineer. Those selected will be getting a stipend during training and an opportunity to pursue their career in GPRS and WiFi networks using Linux operating system.

Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal RIMT-IET said that with participation of 262 students from B.Tech computer science, electronics engineering and MCA, finally 74 students were short listed for final round of interview to be held at company’s corporate office.

WORKSHOP ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AT RIMT

Workshops on Ethical Hacking, Network security, English speaking and Web-based technologies were organized on 20th November 2009, by the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering under the Computer Science student’s chapter at RIMT-IET, Mandi Gobindgarh. Seminars were delivered by expert professionals from renowned industries on the burning issues in the field of IT like hacking, network security and web-based technologies such as PHP etc. They provided a befitting start on importance of English speaking & exhorted the students to become professionally as well as intellectually equipped to face the tough challenges in today’s hi-tech world. Dr. Harsh Sadawarti (Principal, RIMT-IET) extended a warm welcome to all the delegates. He said that RIMT eagerly looks forward towards such student improvement programs that enable them to interact with learned speakers. Seminars on recent trends in information technology were also organized and presented by M.Tech.(CSE) students of the college. At the culmination of the workshop, Prof. Sushil Garg (Head, CSE Dept.) expressed his gratitude towards the delegates who had graced the occasion and thanked the students & faculty members for their active participation to make this event a grand success.

Oriental Structural Engineers (OSE) Pvt. Ltd. visited RIMT campus

RIMT Engineering Institute at Mandi Gobindgarh hosted a mega I.T. job fest in which more than 15 leading IT companies from Gurgaon, Noida, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula participated to fill their immediate job openings for B.Tech, MCA and MBA students passed out in 2007/2008 and 2009.

Few big names include Interglobe Technologies from Gurgaon, SDG Software and HCL Infosystem from Noida, Multivirt Technologies from New Delhi, RedAlkemi, Authorgen Technologies, BelWo Inc, Meritech Software Solutions and Altruist Technologies from IT park Chandigarh, A-1 Technology from Mohali, Artworld Websolutions and Solutions, Beyond from Panchkula.

Event was inaugurated by Chairman Sh. Hukam Chand Bansal of RIMT Group of Institutes in the presence of Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal RIMT Engineering college and CEOs, directors and HR officials of participating companies. He said that such job fest is a step towards bridging the gap between industry and academia where in academia works to fulfill the industry requirements by organizing such job fests. On the occasion Prof. H.S.Taluja, Director Placements said that 963 students appeared. Interviews continued till late evening and finally total of 242 students were shortlisted by various companies for final round to be held in their corporate office. The compiled result will be displayed in college website www.rimtengg.com. All companies had their own recruitment procedures and were hiring for posts such as Software engineer, software trainee, web developer, web designer, content writer, technical writer, business analyst, business development executive, search engine optimizer etc with variable salary packages ranging from 1.44 to 3.6 lacs per annum.

HR Officials of companies also shared their thoughts and appreciated the efforts of training and placement department of RIMT Engineering Institutes in terms of opportunity extended to them for hiring talent from campus and hospitality extended to them.

Expert lecture on Cloud Computing

RIMT-IET, dept of CSE organised an expert lecture on Cloud Computing. Mr. Navraj S. Chohan, Project Lead, AppScale, an Open Source research frame work for execution of Google AppEngine applications, delivered an expert lecture on Cloud Computing on 28th October, 09.

Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal, RIMT-IET, Prof. Sushil Garg, HOD, CSE, faculty members, CSE dept. and some 100+ students of CSE dept. participated in this session. Dr. Harsh Sadawarti delivered valedictory speech and motivated students of M.Tech (CSE), so as to imbibe their interest in taking Cloud Computing as their research area for their post graduation thesis work.

A token of thanks was presented to Mr. Navraj Chohan for his dignified talk for guiding students of RIMT-IET, in the latest trends of computing.

CSE Department launches Center of Excellence

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering launched Center of Excellence (COE) on 22nd October 2009 for promoting technical expertise among the students of CSE department. It was inaugurated under the able guidance and stewardship of Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Principal, RIMT - IET. Prof. Sushil K. Garg, Head CSE Dept., faculty members and students were present on this occasion. As a pilot of run of this initiative, Dr. Harsh Sadawarti declared sponsorship for five students to undergo their six months Industrial Training in reputed IT companies free of cost. Head CSE Dept. ensured that the department will do its best to train the students about the new emerging technologies. Further he added that the center will be fruitful for them and will increase their practical knowledge. For this the center will provide best working facilities and expert faculty to work on live projects. The main aim of COE is to make the students learn the latest technologies and practical aspects of project development during their curriculum. In future, this COE aims at providing hands on expertise on live projects and training at economical rates to CSE students so as to make students enhance their skills.

RIMT bags PTU Inter College BasketBall Championship

On the third day of finals of Punjab Technical University Basketball Inter College Tournament, RIMT-IET, Mandi Gobindgarh became the champions defeating CIET Rajpura by 79-70. The main scorer for the match were Fatehjit Singh Grewal 33 points, Anshul Tapwal 15 and Jagdeep Ghuman 18. In girls section, DAVIET Jalandhar beat GNDEC Ludhiana by 43-21 points and became the winners.

RIMT-IET, the Host, became the champions in basketball for the first time in the University tournament. Fatehjit Singh Grewal was adjudged the best player while three pointers champion Trophy with cash award of Rs. 2100/- won by Jasdeep Ghuman of RIMT and Avtar Singh of CIET. RIMT Group Chairman Dr. Hukam Chand Bansal was the Chief Guest of the closing ceremony along with Principal Dr. Harsh Sadawarti distributed prizes to the winners and announced Rs.1 Lakh cash prize to RIMT-IET Basketball team for winning gold medal in the tournament.

Earlier in the Semi-finals, RIMT-IET defeated SUS IET, Tangori by 69-58 points, to reach finals. In the second semi-finals match between CIET, Rajpura beat BBSBCE, Fatehgarh Sahib by 54-35 points and reached the finals. In the girls section, DAV IET, Jalandhar defeated BBSBEC, Fatehgarh Sahib by 23-21 points and reached the finals. In the second semi-finals of girl’s section, GNDEC, Ludhiana beat CIET, Chitkara by 26-23 points and reached the finals.

In competition for the third and fourth place, in boys section SUSIET Tangori defeated BBSBEC Fatehgarh Sahib by 51-50 points and won the third place and in the girls section, BBSBEC Fatehgarh Sahib defeated CIET Rajpura by 29-08 points and won the third place.

IT Park, Chandigarh based IBM Daksh Business Process Services Pvt. Dr. Hukam Chand Bansal, Chairman RIMT Institutes was the Chief Guest on the closing of tournament and distributed the prizes and medals among the winner teams of boys and girls. Prof. (Dr) V.S.Batra, Head of Civil Engineering. Deptt welcomed the representatives of Ambuja Cement Ltd and also students and faculty of deptt. He spoke on the importance of the Industry Institute Interaction. This was important as the students and faculty would understand the field applications of engineering better. This will also narrow down the gap between class room teaching and field practices. The students will have better confidence and will become better professionals when they join the field after finishing their studies. Prof. Batra introduced Mr. Bhupinder Singh Sidhu and Mr. Manish Bhatia both from Ambuja Cement Ltd. He said that Ishar is a fast growing Civil Construction Company into ROB Projects in Madhya Pradesh and road works in Punjab and Chandigarh. CII Workshop on India @75 was held at RIMT- Institute of Engineering & Technology in which no of industrialist from Punjab participated. Mr Gunbir Singh, Vice Chairman ,CII Punjab State Council along with other officials presented his views. Mr Singh said that CII is a non-government, non-profit, industry led and industry managed organisation, playing a proactive role in India's development process. Founded over 113 years ago, it is India's premier business association, with a direct membership of over 7500 organisations from the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs and an indirect membership of over 83,000 companies from around 380 national and regional sectoral associations.

Opening remarks were given by Dr B. S. Bhatia, Director General ,RIMT-IMCT. Dr Bhatia highlighted the strengths & weakness of industries in Punjab. He emphasized on the proper utilization of resources to achieve more than nine percent rate of growth. Dr Pritpal Singh, Principal of the institute emphasized on the latest education techniques and skills development for the better rate of growth.

Welcoming the participants, Professor Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Principal of the institute said that RIMT is committed to provide the world-class education . WORKSHOP ON AUTOMATION AND PLC’s

Van Mahotsav Diwas at RIMT-IET

Van Mahotsav Diwas was celebrated at RIMT - Institute of Engg. & Technology (RIMT-IET), Mandi Gobindgarh. About 600 plants were planted in the institute premises. Mr. Daljit Singh Brar, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Fatehgarh Sahib was present during the event. This event was organized to create awareness about the importance of trees and to provide the healthy environment to the students. The inauguration of the event was done by Mr. Daljit Singh Brar by planting a tree, followed by Dr. Pritpal Singh (Principal, RIMT-IET), Prof. Harsh Sadawarti (Vice-Principal, RIMT-IET), Dr. D.S. Taneja (Principal, RIMT-Maharaja Aggrasen Engg. College), Dr. A.K. Gupta (Principal, RIMT-College of Architecture), Heads of various departments, the faculty members, staff and the students.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Brar stressed that there is no other alternative than to plant more trees to contain the menace of pollution. He was very much impressed by the existing plantation in the campus .Sh. Hukam Chand Bansal, Chairman said that we should make all out efforts to create healthy surroundings as the environment is very important and it is our duty to save it for the future generations. Chairman of RIMT Group of Institutions, Sh. Hukam Chand Bansal welcomed senior HR officials of Oriental and said that placements for students graduating in 2009 is in full swing and number of IT and core engineering companies are visiting RIMT to hire good talent from this region. He also added that institute is focusing on inviting companies for industrial training cum placement and working with the vision of achieving 100% placement of students.

While giving company presentation, Oriental recruiting team briefed that OSE is one of the leading construction companies having expertise in construction of rigid and flexible pavements for roads, highways and airfields, including bridges, flyovers, embankment with reinforced earth and earthwork.

Another renowned IT Company, Vault Infotech, which is an 8-year-old IT Solutions and Services company based in Bangalore with over 450 plus resources working across technologies and industry segments visited RIMT to recruit fresh engineers to be deployed on-site at SAP Labs, Bangalore. More than 500 students from eighteen different engineering colleges appeared in the placement test. Those selected were called for final interview at Delhi.

In the conference eminent persons and research scholars from various fields actively participated and enlightened the faculty and students of the various current and upcoming areas for research. More than 75 delegates from across the country attended the conference. 2nd National Conference on Challenges & Opportunities in IT Concludes

A National conference on Challenges & Opportunities in Information Technology was organized by the department of Computer Science & Engineering at RIMT Institute of Engineering & Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh today. More than 150 research papers on different areas of IT were published in the proceedings and more than 100 delegates from different parts of the country presented their papers.

The chief guest was Regional Manager from HCL Infotech Ltd., Mohit Chawala who apart from congratulating the C.S.E. and other engineering department for successfully organizing a seminar on such a burning issue, exhorted the students to become professionally as well as intellectually equipped to face the tough challenges that are being posed by the rapid discoveries in the this hi tech world.

The Chairman of RIMT Group of Institutes Hukam Chand Bansal extended a welcome to the chief guest as well as the experts who assembled from various corners of the country to deliberate upon the issue of COIT. Proceedings and CDs of COIT were released by the chief guest and other delegates present on the occasion. Online copy of the proceedings were also published on the college website. 180 MCA students were distributed laptops free of cost so that they may gain adequate know how and skill towards the fulfillment of their professional goals. Three best researchers, whose papers were especially held in commendation, were honoured on the occasion.

NSS VOLUNTEERS DONATE BLOOD

“Students come forward for social service and play active role in the service of humanity,” said Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Dr. Kaustubh Sharma. He was speaking after inaugurating a blood donation camp, organized by the NSS unit of RIMT-IET, Mandi Gobindgarh, in association with Lions Club, Patiala (Fort) on 13th March 2008. RIMT Group Chairman Sh. Hukam Chand Bansal welcomed the chief guest. Lions Surinder Verma and K.K. Mangla were the guests of honour.

In this camp, 200 units of blood were collected. Principal Dr. Pritpal Singh welcomed the chief guest and informed that RIMT-IET donated 400 units of blood every year under the banner of NSS unit and two blood donation camps were held annually.

A team of Dr. Kusum Thakur and Dr. Rajni Kapoor from the blood bank, Rajindera Hospital, Patiala thanked the students for donating blood. Head of NSS unit Amit Singla also spoke at the occasion.

With Govt of India, Ministry of MSME, Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Development Institute, Ludhiana.. This programme was an Industrial Motivation Campaign for self employment opportunities. All the worthy speakers enlightened the students about the rising trend of entrepreneurship and what are the ways and the process of starting up your own enterprise because today is the era of self employment means the generation of employment on your own. As the Indian economy is rising the industrial trends are changing and Govt. of India and the ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprise is providing all kinds of information, resources, and funds to help the young entrepreneurs. So, the basic motive behind this programme was to inculcate the drive of entrepreneurship as a seed in the mind of young blood. The welcome address was given by Dr. Bimal Anjum, HOD the department of Business Administration. In Developing Countries youth should concentrate for self employment. The rate of growth in small and medium industry is satisfactory which will lead the growth in the nation. RIMT-Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Mandi Gobindgarh arranged a Pool Campus Placement drive for Bangalore based Vault Information Technology , in which students from B.Tech all streams and and MCA appeared for the post of development engineers. Technical club “e-VISION” Inaugurated at RIMT-IET

ECE Department of RIMT-IET , inaugurated its Technical Club e-VISION. The club was inaugurated by Chief guest Shri.Hukam Chand Bansal, who is also the Chairman of RIMT Group of Institutes . As a part of this inauguration several technical events such as Technical Quiz, workshop on Robotics and Embedded Systems and presentation of the project “Voice controlled vehicle” was carried out. Principal, RIMT-IET Dr Pritpal Singh congratulated and appreciated Mr Rajneesh Talwar for his efforts to technically groom the students. Mr Harsh, Vice Principal congratulated Mr Rajneesh Talwar for organizing the workshop on Robotics and Embedded Systems. Rajneesh Talwar HOD ECE informed that the purpose of formation of this club was to make students technically more sound specifically related to organizing technical events, making of projects, preparing the students for Technical questions for placement test etc and to utilize their free time for constructive work. Mr Rajneesh Informed that students of ECE have shown keen interest in all the activities of the club and several other activities such as Industrial Visits, paper presentations by students and other such events are planned for the next semesters.

Certificates & trophies were given to the teams (named e-miracle, , transistors, microcontrollers) who stood first, second and third in the technical Quiz. Technical Questions for the Quiz were prepared by the Faculty members of ECE Department and the test was conducted by Mrs Bharti Gupta and Mr Sarabjit, Faculty Coordinators for e-VISION. Students of 5th semester Jaspreet , Harsh, Sumit, Gurpreet demonstrated the project “Voice controlled vehicle” which the above group has made under the guidance & supervision of Mr Rajneesh Talwar. The project working i.e vehicle movements (forward, back and stop) can be controlled using the voice of the driver/owner of the vehicle, which was demonstrated to the audience. It’s hardware and software details were explained to the students who showed keen interest in this project.

Mr Rohit Khosla, Director R&D from NETMAX Technologies, a Chandigarh based Company. explained basic software and hardware requirements of robotics. Experts from SILICON Technologies, another Chandigarh based company explained the basics of Embedded systems. These companies have collaborated with Electronics & communication department and T&P department to hold workshop on Robotics and Embedded systems. Two day TechFest INTELLOASIS’07, organized by CSE Dept., concluded successfully at RIMT-IET today. More than 4000 students took part in various technical and cultural events. All the colleges of RIMT Group of Institutes were invited on the Fete. The Fete was inaugurated by Mrs. Neena Bansal, Joint Chairperson RIMT Group of Institutes. Sh. Hukam Chand Ji Bansal, Chairman RIMT Group of Institutes along with family was the worthy Chief Guest on this day. ECE Department of RIMT-IET organized a two days (10-11 September) workshop on “Embedded systems design and development using Microcontrollers” in collaboration with EEAST, a Chandigarh based company for Faculty & final year ECE Students. Chairman of the college Hukam Chand Bansal congratulated Mr. Rajneesh Talwar, Head ECE Department for arranging the workshop and said that such practical workshops should be organized by all the departments and management will provide full support for such workshops.

He was addressing a first meeting, after coming into power of SAD-BJP Government. in the state, of Trade and Industry organized at RIMT -IET Complex here.

To meet the global challenges, switch over from agriculture to industry is necessary, said Mr. Sidhu. He cited the example of Germany which had switched over its 85 percent dependence on agriculture to 5 percent only by adopting industrial growth. Selfish and vested interest had overcome the development of the industry in the state. he maintained. Another important step to promote industry is being taken by the Punjab government to generate 1000 mega watt power, octroi will be abolished, he added.

Mr. Sidhu criticized the manner of imposition of V A T in the state. He cited the example of Europe where 17 percent V A T is imposed whereas no other tax of any kind is taken from the trade and industry but in our state many different taxes also continue besides the VAT. He ensured the trade and industry to take their up problems with the centre and state governments vigorously.

Mandi Gobindgarh Induction Furnace Association under the leadership of Mohinder Gupta, President, Raj Bansal, Senior Vide President, Kuldeep Goel, General Secretary, Gopal Singh, Treasurer, it was pointed out that there were more than 200 furnaces in Punjab, which have an investment of Rs. 1000 crore and provide employment to lakhs of unemployed youth. The industry got a big set back in the black days of terrorism, but after it was contained, no relief was provided to the industry. Only contrary the government announced industrial package in the state of Himachal, J & K and Uttranchal.

It was also demanded from the central government to give some identical package to induction furnace industry in the state on the pattern of its neighboring states. The industry should be saved from the Inspectory Raj. It was also state that the units were very comfortable when excise duty payable in Lump Sum, which was called Compounded Levy Scheme. Either this scheme be introduced or deemed credit on the scrap should be allowed.

During the Paddy season industry is reduced to its 25 percent due to power diversion from industry to agriculture. The large quantity of finished Iron and Steel Products are coming to Punjab and are sold at cheaper rates, because there is no Customs Central Excise Levy and resultantly of the ingots. The Punjab govt. should impose Entry Tax on the iron and Steel Products and reduce CST from 2 percent to 1 percent. Among others Mr. K.K. Jindal, Secretary Steel Chamber of Commerce, Councilor Rajiv Sood, Mr. Suresh, Vice President, Municipal Council, Mr. Raj Jindal, Vice President, All India Steel re-roller association and Mr. O.P. The selection criteria of HCL Technology was quite an interactive one. The students had to undergo vigorous filtering process which was conducted in three phases. First phase was interactive group discussion round in which students displayed communication and intellectual skill. This was followed by the interview round which apart from testing their acumen tested the voice and accent quality of students. The final round was the HR round in which successful candidates were handed over offer letters. The stress of the whole placement procedure was on the exploration of the psychological as well as mental make up of the budding IT students.

RIMT-Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Mandi Gobindgarh conducted job fair at its campus. US based ACE Technologies Inc., FCS Software Solutions Limited having its corporate offices in California and Noida and Prometheus visited RIMT-IET. Forty Three colleges were registered for the Joint campus placement event with more than 3000 students appeared in the placement drive. Students from all over Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pardesh and UP visited the campus. Many colleges of Noida and Faridabad also appeared in this huge job fair. Dr. S.K.Goyal, Principal said that FCS Software Solutions Limited is an IT services company listed in the BSE and NSE with a turnover of 115.83 crores as on March last. Started in 1993 FCS has recently been ranked among the top 150 IT companies in India by Dataquest. FCS is expanding rapidly with facilities in Noida, Panchkula, Dehra Dun and Chennai. FCS has tied up with Prometheus a Pre Hire Training company to meet its HR requirements.

Mr S. Ramanan, Head Training and HR, Prometheus said that the campus placement drive has been organized keeping in mind the talent that Chandigarh and surrounding areas has to offer. He informed the students that the Bharti has been a pioneering force in the telecom sector with many firsts and innovations to its credit. Interview process started with 30 minutes test on aptitude, followed by personal interview. Mr. Amarpreet Singh, Asstt. Manager declared the results and offered appointment to six students.

Harmit Singh Taluja, Training and Placement Officer (TPO) and Lecturers visited Wockhardt Ltd. at Lalru. It was an industrial visit undertaken with a view to enhance the operational and management skills of students as well as abreast them with the industrial environment. Mr. M.M.Verma, Associate Vice President (Works) briefed that Wockhardt is the fifth largest pharmaceutical company in India with a turnover of 1400 crore with the compound growth rate of 35%. It has a wide range of products in the field of anti-infective, cardiac and nutritional products, and also caters to pediatric and Medical Nutrition markets.

The various queries put forth by the students on issues related to production, management and marketing were very well attended and answered. He also briefed that Wockhardt achieved its growth and profitability through quality products and services, increasing investment in Research and Development and through its competent scientific & managerial manpower. On queries related to research and development, Verma stated that the company spends around 10% of its turnover on R&D. 260 dedicated scientists with over 90 of them Ph..Ds carry out research at Wockhardt’s state of the art R&D center at Aurangabad.

Gaganpal bagged first position in 1,500 meter race in the second two- day annual Athletic Meet of RIMT -Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh . Ramandeep Singh Grewal, former Olympian and Deputy Director, Sports, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana inaugurated the meet. In his address, he spoke about the vital part that sports play in the life of a student. He encouraged the students to get actively involved in sports and complemented the Institute on attaching importance to activities like sports in its campus. The ball was set rolling with a March Past by students of the institute which was followed by Torch Lighting and Unfurling of the Flag. Sh. Hukam Chand Bansal, Chairman of the institute promised all help to further future sports activities on campus. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS at RIMT-IET

A Literary Club got underway at the RIMT-IET, Mandi Gobindgarh on the occasion of the celebrations of International Women’s Day here today.

The aim of the formation of the Club is to inculcate organizational abilities and communication skills among students and provide them a launching pad for conducting co-curricular activities. A number of students spoke at the Paper Reading contest on diverse topics relating to women. Roopjit Sidhu stood first while the second position went to Radhika Kakkar. Sadaf Irfan and Anshul Bhandari were bracketed third.

Among the guests the Principal, Dr. S.K.Goel, complemented the efforts that went into the organisation of such an illuminating performance. The Vice Principal. Professor Harsh Sadawarti was also appreciative of the performers as well as the organizers and promised all help in the Club’s future activities.

Dr. S.K.Goyal, Principal, RIMT-IET while welcoming the guest introduces Mr. Ben Van Klinken, CTO of Voltix and team members to audience. He informed that Voltix is a company focused on providing and developing open-source based solutions to lower time and costs to market.

Ben van Klinken explained the power of vertically targeted search engines. He discussed the growing number of specialised search engines and how Voltix is using open source technology to create tools to capture this growing market. He also briefed that Search engines use special analysis algorithms to try and return the most relevant results. Using a targeted search engine, a search for ‘x’ could also return documents relating to ‘y’. A generic search engine such as Google may not identify this subtle similarity.

Nitin Sharma, GM of Voltix, introduced the company’s new initiative of providing training services to enterprising students who want to get ahead in the competitive software industry and offered options of doing summer training in the organization. Dr. S.K.Goyal, Principal, RIMT-IET while welcoming the guest introduces Ms. Raunica Sethi, Career Counsellor to audience. He informed that Ms. Sethi has done her MBA from Ahmedabad and has been giving resume writing tips to Engineering and Management students from last three years.

Raunica stated that students should highlight results, quantify, use numbers and should not use industry jargon as it does not impress people, infact it confuses them. She also laid stress on using strong action verbs and advised not to repeat action verbs too often.

For management students she said that they should use marketing language, as it reflects to the viewer that they understand marketing. On asking about interests and hobbies she stated that one should mention anything except sleeping, eating, making friends and watching tv.

RIMT Engg. College NSS UNIT organizes Blood Donation Camp

The first Mega Voluntary blood donation camp was organized by the NSS Unit of RIMT-IET, Mandi Gobindgarh in collaboration with Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, at the college premises today. A team of twelve doctors supervised by Dr. Kanchan Saini and Dr. Poonam Singhal participated in the camp.

It was inaugurated by Dr. K.C.Goyal, DHO Sangrur. The Chairman, Sri Hukam Chand Bansal graced the occasion and felt overwhelmed at the response from the student donors. There were about 250 Student and Teacher Volunteers, though all could not be accommodated because only 120 blood units were required. In addition around 150 students were tested for HB.

‘The philanthropic zeal of [the Chairman’s father] Late Sri Om Prakash Bansal in whose memory the RIMT Group has come into being found reflection in activities such as this’, opined the Chairman.

The cooperation of the Principal, Dr. S.K.Goel and the Vice Principal, Professor Harsh Sadawarti, made possible such an activity at the institute said the NSS Unit Incharge Mr. Amit Singla, who is the force behind all NSS activities. He also felt that the Camp could not have been as much a success had it not been the team work of NSS Student Volunteers who have always risen to occasions when needed. It is worth mentioning that the collected Blood will be used for the destitute, poor and thallasemic patients. The college has also decided to organize such camps on a regular basis.

RIMT holds seminar on personality development

(IET), Mandi Gobindgarh, in collaboration with Unistar Business Group organized a seminar on “Need of Communication Skill and Personality Development” for its engineering and management students. College principal S.K. Goyal said that the seminar was organized to equip students with better communication skills and personality development.

Himanshu Sharma, head of Unistar Business Group, said , “ The speech reflects the personality. People with good communication skills always make a good impression and never fail.” He said that body language constitutes 55 percent, 38 percent voice and 7 percent content. Harmit Singh Taluja, Training and Placement officer, said that such seminars offers maximum placement assistance to students.

Led by an all round performance by their captain Gagan Sharma and fine knock by Rohit together with superb display by their bowlers RIMT Engineering College became champs of PTU Inter College Cricket tournaments by edging past over RIMT Management College in ZONE D final played at their home turf. Sh Hukam Chandi ji Bansal, Chairman Sh Om Parkash Bansal Educational and Social Welfare Trust were the chief guest of this match. After hammering a massive score of 203 off 25 overs RIMT Engineering bundled the rivals for a moderate total of 128. For RIMT Engineering Gagan and Rohit slammed half-centuries making 67 and 66 while Anuj scored 25.Nitin and Vikram took 2 wickets apiece.Puneet Jain, Gagan Sandhu and Piyush evenly distributed wickets between them taking 3 wickets each. Piyush gave 3 jolts to the rivals in a single over before bundling them to 128. Inder and Sarabjeet were the significant run-getters for RIMT Management team with 39 and 30 apiece.

Industrial Visit to Rana Polycot Ltd.

The students of 1st year MBA of RIMT-Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Mandi Gobindgarh accompanied by Mr. Harmit Singh Taluja, Training and Placement Officer (TPO) and Ms. Gaganpreet Kaur Lecturer visited Rana Polycot Ltd. at Lalru Mandi. It was an industrial visit undertaken with a view to innate the practical skills of the bending managers as well as abreast them with the real working environment. The students were thoroughly guided through the entire process of production of the yarn form cotton crop with the help of highly modernized and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Machines. Most of the machines are of Reiter machine imported from Switzerland. It was an export unit and they deal in the production of 100% pure cotton yarn. The management students show keen interest in the working culture of the plant, especially they had interaction with along with the individuals working in the plant. The various queries put forth by the students to the Plant Engineer and Staff of the Plant were very well attended and answered. The various processes like finishing of the yarn and cotton openings were very well explained to the students.

Later the administration and staff of Rana Polycot Ltd. offered refreshment to the students. The DGM of the Plant, Dr. Sudhir Chauhan addressed the students and briefed them about the policies and the working culture of plant and he also throws light on the various benefits which they are giving to their employees. Souvenir was also given by the Training & Placement Division of RIMT to Dr. Sudhir Chauhan, DGM (P&A) of the plant. The interaction session of the Lecturers with the Administration yielded in the decision to send some selected students every year for developing their need based projects and their training activities.
